The Tupolev SB-2

The Tupolev SB-2 was first produced in 1933 and saw its first combat during the Spanish Civil War in 1936 on the side of the Republicans.Several captured SB-2's were pressed into service with the Nationalists also. During this conflict the SB-2's performance was impressive because of its high speed. Mass production was ordered and over 6,600 SB-2's were constructed before 1941.After serving in actions against the Japanese in Mongolia in 1938 and 1939,the Tupolevs took part in the attack on Finnland where captured examples were utilized against their former masters by the Finns. Apart from serving in the Soviet air forces, the Tupolev SB-2's were used by Spain Nationalist China, Finland Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria.
