This car is the 1/2 track conversion of the Austin Putilov Armored Car. Sixty of these 1/2 track conversions were completed and delivered to units before the revolution. An unknown number were converted by the Reds during the revolution, and large numbers of these vehicles were used by both sides in the Civil War. By 1939 most of the surviving numbers of Austin Putilov 1/2 tracks and standard Austin Armored Cars had been relegated to the use of the Border Guards and the NKVD. Large numbers were destroyed during Operation Barbarossa.
