(AC-32) 13 pdr. Mk 3 AA Gun on Thornycroft Type J Lorry Kit......... $20.00

The Thornycroft 3-ton J Type Lorry was originally designed in 1912 specifically to qualify for the British Army's subsidy requirements.  It had a top speed of  14 1/2 miles per hour.  More than 5000 of these vehicles were constructed for the British Army between 1914 and 1918.   It was used on all fronts and won a great reputation. The J type remained in production as a commercial vehicle until 1926.   The J Types were also used in a wide variety of specialist rolls.   One of the most common was the Anti Aircraft Gun configuration.   The gun was a 13-pdr field gun, removed from its normal field carriage and fitted to a rotating pedestal mount.   It was used in with a visual rangefinder which was carried in an accompanying vehicle and set up alongside the emplaced gun carrier. Folding supports with jacks  steadied the vehicle when firing.   The usual gun section was equipped with two Thornycroft gun-carrier lorries, each supported by two 3-ton lorries which carried the gun crew, the rangefinder, and ammunition.     This is a  40 part kit and includes driver and 5  gun crew.
